Over the years of teaching I have done different activities based upon incorporating check books, home buying, stocks, loan tables, and the like to have students practice some of the real life, and adult challenges they very likely will encounter. It was based upon teacher books, resources, and collaborative ideas from other teachers. I thank them all, and sadly do not have the materials to give proper bibliographical credits.
To make those sometimes tedious activities a little more exciting, and to incoporate elements of chance, I chose to use a game like format to provide daily challenges and to make the framework for the Real World Activity. Besides math, a huge component to the game is a daily log and journal which incorporates both oral and written expression.
